In a powerful message to his church congregation, Pastor William Kumuyi, the General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church, has called on Christians to redirect their offerings towards assisting the poor and unemployed in their communities rather than solely focusing on building church auditoriums. Kumuyi emphasized the importance of Christians extending a helping hand to their less fortunate neighbors who struggle to meet basic life needs.

The pastor’s advice comes amidst growing concerns raised by critics, including controversial On-Air Personality (OAP) Daddy Freeze, who have highlighted the extravagant lifestyles of some Nigerian pastors while their congregations face dire poverty.

During his message, Kumuyi cited Deuteronomy chapter 14, specifically verse 22, which encourages individuals to “eat their tithe by themselves.” By referencing this scripture, the pastor aimed to challenge the prevailing notion that all offerings should be exclusively directed towards church infrastructure.

While acknowledging the significance of constructing churches, Kumuyi stressed that Christians must not neglect the needs of their neighbors who suffer from hunger and deprivation. He expressed his belief that the church should allocate funds not only for building projects such as the Deeper Life International Conference Centre (DLICC) but also for charitable endeavors to alleviate the suffering of those in their community.

Kumuyi urged his church members to prioritize the well-being of both fellow congregants and non-members alike, as they are aware of their circumstances and can readily provide assistance. By adopting this approach, the pastor hopes to address the issue of poverty and malnutrition that plagues many individuals within and outside the church community.

The message delivered by Pastor Kumuyi serves as a call to action for Christians to reassess their priorities and actively engage in acts of compassion and support for the less privileged.
