IGP Disobeys Court Order; Fails To Produce Vijah Opuama Who Has Been In Police Custody For 3 Weeks

The Inspector General of Police, disobeys the Federal High Court order, to produce Vijah Opuama, the Governorship candidate of the Liberation Movement, in the November 16 Bayelsa State Gubernatorial Election, in Court.

Despite the initial order to produce him in court, today, the IGP proves adamant.

This move by the IGP, is uncalled for; particularly, the unlawful arrest and detention of the said Vijah Opuama.

Vijah Opuama was arrested on 15th August 2020, at the venue of Bayelsa State Governorship Tribunal, sitting in Abuja. He has been in detention, since then, upon the complaint, by the Chief of Staff to Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Benson Agadaga.
It is believe that, the Governor of Bayelsa State, is instigating the detention of Vijah; because, the Tribunal has nullified his election.

However, there is no law anywhere in the world that, permits a suspect to be detained, by the police, beyond 24 hours, and without any court arraignment.

Meanwhile, ''the Federal High Court may commit the IGP to contempt of Court, if he fails to produce Vijah Opuama on Monday, being the last chance given to him''.
